The MS 20 can be adapted to different measuring scenarios and samples using accessories. Using different sample containers liquid dispersions can be analysed inside the temperature controlled ScanTowers and for a regular calibration special reference bodies are available.
The MS 20 uses up to six independent ScanTowers for the measuring process. Hence, samples can be individually analysed at different temperatures and with different measuring parameters.
The temperature inside the ScanTower ST-TEC is controlled using an electric resistance heater and a liquid counter-cooling. This allows for measurements in a temperature range of -10 °C to 80 °C. Temperatures below 4 °C require an optional thermal insulation sleeve.
Due to the possibility of using several ScanTowers on one MS 20, samples can be analysed in short- and long-term experiments side by side. For example, one ScanTower can be used to analyse a sample for months while using another ScanTower with daily changing samples.
In order to place sample dispersions into the ScanTowers of the MS 20 various different sample containers are available:
Standard sample containers with special screw cap for easy insertion into a ScanTower.
Disposable standard sample containers with normal screw cap.
Fire-polished round glass cuvette with flat bottom and corresponding plug. For use in combination with Adapt-SC 10.
Glass test tubes with round bottom and corresponding plugs. For use in combination with Adapt-SC 10.
Sample containers with dimensions fulfilling the specifications in ASTM Standard Test Method D7061 for testing the stability reserve of heavy fuel oils. For use in combination with Adapt-SC 15.
The Reference Body Set RBS is used to calibrate the backscattering signal of the ScanTowers. The set consists of three Zenith Polymer® Diffuse Reflectance Standards:
The Adapt-SC 10 allows the placement of the smaller sample containers SC 10 and SC 10D into a ScanTower. The Adapt-SC 15 allows the placement of the special sample container SC 15 into a ScanTower.
The base unit of the MS 20 features an integrated barcode scanner for sample recognition. Optionally, the handheld bar
code scanner BCS-EXT can be used. Hence, barcode labels created with the MSC control and evaluation software can be read even more flexible and conveniently. The handheld barcode scanner requires a free USB port on the PC with the MSC software.
